Network control and outage management systems will be completely replaced over a 4-year period.

Schneider Electric will provide new network control technology with EcoStruxure™ ADMS for Stromnetz Berlin. The project’s goal is to completely replace Berlin’s network control and outage management systems.

Stromnetz Berlin GmbH has commissioned Schneider Electric to supply a new network control system for its distribution grid.

The project’s goal is the complete replacement of the network control and outage management systems currently in operation for the high-, medium- and low-voltage grids by Schneider Electric systems technology over the coming four years. This will involve the integration of a new and highly standardized Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) with the associated hard- and software components.

An operation management concept has been elaborated with the help of the management consultancy CONSULECTRA prior to the implementation of the project. The plan reflects future demands on the network control system and outlines the collaboration. Stromnetz Berlin has opted for the construction of a central low-voltage grid control system. The switching command centers for the high- and medium-voltage grids will be merged. The intelligent combination of existing IT systems with the new ADMS components will lead to a high degree of integration and automation of information and data exchange.

Integrated into EcoStruxure Grid, Schneider Electric’s IT-/OT-based system architecture, EcoStruxure ADMS provides a comprehensive solution to administration, control, monitoring, analysis, optimization, planning, simulation and training in the electricity grid sector. A combined network model for all voltage levels and functions allows for efficient and sustainable network operations in every area from low-voltage to transmission network.

“The implementation of Schneider Electric’s ADMS provides Stromnetz Berlin with a highly integrated system for the management of the entire distribution network. This system allows us to make a significant contribution to Berlin’s new power system operation management concept,” explained Dr. Joachim Dams, Vice President (Energy) of Schneider Electric.

Jürgen Schunk, head of Stromnetz Berlin’s assets division added: “We chose Schneider Electric’s ADMS system because it provides excellent support for our aim to design management systems for centralized network control at all voltage levels. The integrated systems solution allows for the optimal management of our processes. Thanks to our digitized network operations, we are optimally prepared for the demands of the energy turnaround.”

The fully-integrated intelligent control system EcoStruxure ADMS for energy supplier has been recognized multiple times by a leading industry analyst in the recent years. It is currently used by 75 utility companies, serving 70 million clients worldwide.
