Ask a Question

Can we use fast acting or current limiting fuses to protect the SCRs in ATS46 soft starters?

Code may allow use of other fuses. However, our recommendations include Class RK5 and L fuses. It is not necessary to use fast acting or current limited fuses. Use of other than recommended fuses may result in nuisance tripping due to high starting current. The SCR thyristors can handle many times their rated current for short periods of time. The soft starter has not been designed for type 2 coordination.
