What does the term "NEMA Type 9" refer to?

In Hazardous Locations, when completely and properly installed and maintained, NEMA Type 9 enclosures are designed to prevent the ignition of combustible dust. NEMA Type 9 enclosures are constructed for indoor use in hazardous locations classified as Class II, Division 1, Groups E, Group F or Group G as defined in NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code). For more detailed and complete information, NEMA Standards Publication 250, "Enclosures for Electrical Equipment (1000 Volts Maximum)" should be consulted.
