What size breaker is recommended to be used with an HWA, EMA, and EBA SPDs.

Product Line:
Surge Protective Devices (SPD's)

Resolution:
  • HWA includes #10 AWG wire to be connected to a 30 A breaker in your panel for protection. The EMA and EBA surge protection devices have lugs that are provided for phase (line), neutral, and equipment ground connections.
  • The EBA terminals accept a range of 10 AWG (6 mm2) to 2/0 AWG (68 mm2) copper wire for phase, neutral, and ground connectors.
  • The EMA terminals accept a range of 10 AWG (6 mm2) to 2 AWG (34 mm2) copper wire for phase, neutral, and ground connectors.

 * Note - We recommend a 30 A breaker for installation of these SPD's using #10 wire. If connected to a separate, dedicated branch circuit, the Overcurrent Protection Device (OCPD) setting
must be selected to protect the conductors feeding the SPD. Also, when connected to an existing branch circuit, the conductors connected to the SPD must have an ampacity not less than the setting of the existing OCPD.
