Cause:
Most APC devices have a Device Definition File (DDF) within DCE for monitoring device sensors.  To be able to monitor most third party devices, DCE requires a DDF to know what sensor values to poll.

Resolution:

NOTE: Multivendorsupport@apcc.com is no longer being monitored.  DDF Requests now go through: https://ddf.ecostruxureit.com/

Product Association and Searching for Existing DDFs

1) Associate your Data Center Expert appliance to your Help Center account.  Instructions can be found in knowledge base FA342187.
NOTE: You may have already associated your appliance to your account in the past.  If you have, it will show under your profile image in the top-right and under My Products.

2) Navigate to https://ddf.ecostruxureit.com/ and search for the Device you would like a DDF for to see if a DDF has already been created for the device.
NOTE: Try searching by the brand and also more advanced searches such as the family or exact model.

3) If there are search results there will be a line will display saying "Your search found DCE DDF files in the catalog."  Click on "Files to Download" to the right.
If no search results are available, try alternative searches such as: generic brand, family, model, etc.  If there are still no results, proceed to Requesting a New Device Definition File.

4) Scroll through the results to find one that best suits your exact device. Select Download to the right of the applicable line item to download the DDF.

5) Proceed to Installing a Device Definition File within DCE.

Installing a Device Definition File within DCE

1) Log into the Data Center Expert Desktop Client.

2) SNMP DDF: Device menu > SNMP Device Communication Settings > Device Definition Files > Add/Update Definitions > Local File > Browse > Select DDF XML > Open > Next > Check Box next to Name > Next > Finish.
Modbus DDF: Device menu > Modbus Device Communication Settings > Device Definition Files > Add/Update Definitions > Local File > Browse > Select DDF XML > Open > Next > Check Box next to Name > Next > Finish.

Requesting a New Device Definition File

1) If after searching there are no applicable entries for the device, click on the Request button next to "Didn't find what you are looking for?"

2) Fill in the required information.  Ensure to check the option for DDF under Choose Type.
NOTE: If this is an SNMP device request, ensure to provide a MIB file and SNMPwalk file.  Instructions for the SNMPwalk file can be found within the request form.
NOTE: If this is a Modbus device request, ensure to attach the Modbus register map to the request.

3) Once the Device request is registered, you can see the request status by going to your profile picture in the upper-right and then selecting My Device Requests.

NOTE: Current time frame for device requests can be located within the top section of the DDF site: https://ddf.ecostruxureit.com/
NOTE: The DDF team only communicates using the DDF site.  To communicate with them, navigate to your profile image in the top-right and then select My Device Requests.  Add a comment to the applicable device request.

4) Once the DDF is provided to you by the DDF Team, proceed to Installing a Device Definition File within DCE.
