How to disable periodic Software Update check in ION Setup 3.0?

ION Setup freezes before software fully launches.

ION Setup

By default, ION Setup routinely checks for a software update. This check requires connecting to the internet and comparing the current version of ION Setup to the latest available version. If the computer does not allow for an internet connection, the software is unable to complete the required software update check and freezes.


*Warning: This article contains information about editing the registry. Improper changes to the registry can permanently damage the operating system. Always backup the registry before making any changes.*

To manually disable the software update check, complete the following:
  1. Open the Registry Editor by searching for the program regedit
  2. Locate the registry value USERDIR
    • If using a 64-bit operating system, the path is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Schneider Electric\ION Setup\3.0
    • If using a 32-bit operating system, the path is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Schneider Electric\ION Setup\3.0
  3. Copy the Data associated with USERDIR
  1. Paste the copied path into the Windows Explorer address bar
  2. Using Notepad, open ionsetup.ini
  3. Find the following lines:
  1. Change the CheckInterval line to read: CheckInterval=0
  2. Save the file and restart ION Setup
