Can Modbus communication perform a broadcasting function on the drives ( devices ) so that all the units can be written to the same address at one time from the PLC?
Yes.
The drives ( slave ) devices can be broadcasted to simultaneously by writing the number 0 for the address which is reserved for this functionality.
This can be done with the Altivar 58, Altivar 28 and Altivar 31.
Of course, if there is a mixture of devices, the modbus registers may not be the same which would result in misoperation.
