Ask a Question

On the front face of some 15, 20 and 30A, HOM circuit breaker are wire symbols showing 1 and 2 wires. What do those symbols mean?

Issue:
Some of the 15A - 30A HOM circuit breakers have wire symbols on the label on the front face of the breaker, but the exact meaning is not clear.

Product Line:
Circuit Breakers

Environment:
Applies to HOM circuit breakers, 15A - 30A
Does not apply to HOMT circuit breakers.
Does not apply to HOM breakers with suffix GFI, AFI, CAFI, DF, EPD, or EPE.

Resolution:
Homeline circuit breakers (HOM), 15A - 30A, are rated for use with the following wire range:
  • (1) #14 - #8, Al or Cu (1 wire, use either terminal)
  • (2) #14 - #10, Cu only (2 wires, use both terminals)
While this rating is marked on the flat side of the breaker, once installed the marking is often not visible. Therefore the label on the front face of the breaker also shows the rating of 1 or 2 wires.
