Ask a Question

On an ATS22 soft starter, what does PIF fault indicate?

ISSUE:
What does fault PIF indicate on an ATS22 series soft starter?

Product Line:
ATS22 series soft starters.

Environment:
All models, All serial numbers

Cause:
PIF fault is occurring on the starter and the customer does not know what this is indicating.

Resolution:
PIF is a Phase Inversion Fault.  This is an indication that the phase rotation of the incoming three phase power on L1, L2, L3 is incorrect.   Factory default for this setting is disabled.  It must be enabled by the user to either 1,2,3 or 3,2,1.  It is used to prevent the motor from running in the wrong direction if the phasing of the incoming power to the starter reverses.  If PIF fault is occurring, check that the phase rotation of the incoming power has not been reversed.
