Ask a Question

Can the NEMA Class 8502 contactor be converted to a Class 8536 starter by installing an overload relay?

Issue:
Overload needed to make a contactor into a starter

Product Line:
NEMA Contactors and Starters

Environment:
Products sold and used in the United States

Cause:
Contactor obtained when a starter is needed

Resolution:
The NEMA size 00, 0 & 1 contactors can be converted to starters by ordering and installing the appropriate replacement overload relay. However, due to baseplate differences between the contactor and starter on the NEMA size 2 and above, you cannot create a starter by combining a contactor and replacement overload. The closest we can get is to have a contactor with a separate mount overload.
