Ask a Question

Can the HVL/cc switch be used for gererator applications?

If the customer is planning on using the HVLcc as a protection, it is NOT suitable and we would recommend a breaker. Also, while HVLcc is a load interrupter switch, the life of the switch is related to the amount of load interrupted. In this case, with 300 Amps, the SF6 gas in the interrupter will solidify after 200 operations. In other words, they can only interrupt 200 times at 300Amps load.
If the intent here is to provide protection (with coordination) for the generator, a breaker would be the most suitable solution. If the purpose is to use the HVLcc as an isolation device, it is suitable.
