Temporary covers on load centers.
QO and Homeline.
Codes, Standards, Certification
The utilization of temporary covers as protective devices are suitable for use with Square D/Schneider-Electric equipment when the equipment is de-energized. Since we have not independently evaluated these types of products in our laboratories, we do not support the use of temporary covers with our energized equipment. Our concern is that temporary covers may not provide adequate protection if an arc flash event should occur in an energized product, creating potential risk of injury for those working in, or around, the equipment.
Square D equipment comes standard with steel metal Trim Fronts which are designed to provide protection for users of energized equipment. Schneider- Electric recommends that only these sheet metal trim fronts be used if the equipment is energized. Square D/ Schneider- Electric also manufactures a line of Hinged Trim Fronts for some products that swing the entire trim open for easier access to circuit breakers and wiring.
Square D/Schneider Electric recommends that those working in, or around, electrical equipment follow the safety messages and instructions included with the equipment so that risk of injury is minimized.
