How does the 8501 latching relay operate?

The latching relay is electromagnetically operated and is held by means of a mechanical latch. Energization of the latching coil will cause the normally open contacts to close and normally closed contacts to open. The mechanical latch will hold all contacts switched, even after power is removed from the latching coil. Energization of a second coil, the unlatching coil, will result in all contacts switching back to their original state. Both coils are continuously rated and require no coil clearing contacts. Coil clearing contacts should not be used in series with the latching coil.
