What is the 24V DC external power supply used for on a Powerpact H, J, L, P, and R frame breakers?

Issue:
What is the 24 Vdc external power supply used for on a Powerpact H, J, L, P, and R frame breakers? How can the Display show status if there is no load going through the breaker?

Product Line:
Powerpact H-frame, J-frame, L-frame, P-frame, R-frame, Micrologic trip units

Environment:
Molded Case Circuit Breakers

Cause:
Trip unit functions

Resolution:
When used with the Micrologic ammeter or energy trip units (for H, J, and L-frame breakers) or the Micrologic ammeter, power, or harmonic trip units (for P and R-frame breakers) a power supply module makes it possible to:
1) Display current and other information when the breaker is off or has less than 20% of the sensor (In) value flowing through it
2) Make changes to breaker settings using the trip unit screen when the breaker is off or amperage is less than 20% of the sensor value
3) Maintain display of tripping causes after opening of the circuit breaker
4) Store the value of the interrupted current (Power and Harmonic trip units only).

See the below table for Power Supply part numbers.
