Ask a Question

Can boric acid fuses be used with an HVL switch equiped with the stored energy mechanism (SEM).

Not for the most part. The boric acid fuses are locked out of the Medium Voltage Metal Enclosed Product Selector. Boric acid fuses are slower acting that current limiting fuses. The switch can only interrupt 600A. It must be insured somehow that there in not a fault on the system when the switch is opened. With a fault, the let-thru current of the boric acid fuse could destroy the switch before the fuse melts.
