Ask a Question

I have a customer that complains of oil on several breakers in a panel. What could be causing this?

Product line:
Circuit Breakers

Environment:
Electrical Distribution Equipment

Resolution:
There is no source for oil in the circuit breaker. It comes from an external source. One likely source, if they are using wire with PVC insulation, is that the oil plasticizer has separated from the PVC material and wicked to the breaker. If this proves to be the case, the circuit breakers should be replaced.

See 0110DB0301 ``PVC Insulation Degradation. . .`` for more information.
