Ask a Question

How to I pick S&C Boric Acid fuses in the Procduct Selector?

Fuse choices are: Current Limiting, Boric Acid, or Current Limiting & Boric Acid Mixture. This question must be changed to allow certain fuse E-ratings to be selected on the interrupter screens. The manufacturers for current limiting fuses are Square D, General Electric, and Gould (Ferraz) Shawmut. The manufactures for boric acid fuses are S&C and Cutler Hammer (Westinghouse). The default standards are Square D for current limiting and S&C for boric acid.
Note: Boric acid fuses can ONLY be used with HVL switches, NOT with Visi/Vac or HVL/cc.
*REFER TO THE INTEGRATED RATINGS TABLES IN THE PRICING GUIDES TO FIND THE MAXIMUM SYMMETRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT CURRENT RATING (SSCR) FOR THE FUSE TYPE AT THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE. THE SSCR MAY HAVE TO BE LOWERED OR THE HVL SWITCH MAY HAVE TO BE INCREASED TO 1200A. *
Boric Acid Fuses will carry higher continuous currents, but are slower than current limiting fuses and permit higher let thru currents. (Like transformer inrush currents). Boric acid fuses are not good for Fault Close conditions. Current Limiting fuses limit the current for both opening and closing of the circuit. Boric Acid fuses limit the current for opening only. For fault close, the switch is the limiting factor.
